AI quickstart

Three human steps, then paste a prompt into Cursor, Claude Code or Lovable.

1. Sign in

Sign in at https://hellohop.app/login. These account steps happen in the console, not through the public API.

2. Link a number

Add a number in the console, then scan the QR code or use a pairing code with WhatsApp on your phone. Wait until the console shows connected. The free sandbox still needs a real WhatsApp number linked.

3. Create a token

Create a channel token in the console; it is shown once. Store it in HELLOHOP_TOKEN in your local environment or as a server-side secret in your app builder. Never paste the token into an assistant chat or put it in client code. Note your channel ID for the prompt.

In a local shell, read the token without displaying it. Keep shell tracing off. The variable is available to the commands you run from that shell.

bash
set +x
read -r -s -p "HelloHop token: " HELLOHOP_TOKEN; printf "\n"
export HELLOHOP_TOKEN

Before you paste the prompt

Replace <CHANNEL_ID> and <MY_OTHER_NUMBER> with your channel ID and a number you own or a contact who already messages you. Sending to your other number for the first time uses one of the sandbox’s 10 monthly new chats.

For Cursor or Claude Code webhooks, have a public HTTPS URL for the receiver at /hellohop, using a deployed server or a tunnel. Replace <PUBLIC_URL> with that receiver URL. The receiver must answer 2xx. Store a secret of at least 24 characters in HELLOHOP_WEBHOOK_SECRET on the server and use the same secret when registering the receiver.

Make only a handful of API calls to check your setup; do not poll. If a response is 429 with code sandbox_allowance_exceeded, stop and show resets_at. The sandbox includes 180 messages a day and 1,500 API calls a month; reads count too. See the Limits page in these docs for the full table.

Lovable starts with sending only. Add inbound webhooks in a second prompt after sending works, once you have a deployed function with a stable public URL and a stored signing secret.

I have a HelloHop account with a linked WhatsApp number and my channel token is in the environment variable HELLOHOP_TOKEN (never print it or paste it into this chat). My channel ID is <CHANNEL_ID>. Read https://hellohop.app/docs/quickstart.md and https://hellohop.app/docs/webhooks.md. Then: (1) add a small script that sends one text message through HelloHop's API to the number <MY_OTHER_NUMBER> saying "hello from HelloHop"; (2) add a webhook receiver at /hellohop that checks the X-HelloHop-Signature HMAC-SHA256 over the raw body using HELLOHOP_WEBHOOK_SECRET and logs message events; (3) tell me the two commands to run and what I should see. The base URL is https://api.hellohop.app/v1. Do not invent endpoints; if something is not in those two pages, ask me.

Set up HelloHop (an independent WhatsApp API; docs at https://hellohop.app/docs/quickstart.md, https://hellohop.app/docs/webhooks.md, OpenAPI at https://hellohop.app/docs/openapi.json). Read those three before writing code. Assumptions you may rely on: my account exists, my number is linked, and HELLOHOP_TOKEN and HELLOHOP_WEBHOOK_SECRET are set in my shell. Channel ID: <CHANNEL_ID>. Build: a send script (POST /v1/sessions/<CHANNEL_ID>/messages/text to <MY_OTHER_NUMBER>), a webhook server at /hellohop that verifies X-HelloHop-Signature before parsing, and a one-line registration step using PUT /v1/sessions/<CHANNEL_ID>/webhooks with my public URL <PUBLIC_URL>. Then call POST /v1/sessions/<CHANNEL_ID>/webhooks/test and show me the 200. Never echo the token or the secret. If a step needs the HelloHop console or my phone, stop and tell me what to do.

Add WhatsApp notifications to this app using HelloHop's API (docs: https://hellohop.app/docs/quickstart.md). Store HELLOHOP_TOKEN as a server-side secret, never in client code. Create a server function that POSTs {"to": "<number>", "text": "<text>"} to https://api.hellohop.app/v1/sessions/<CHANNEL_ID>/messages/text with the header Authorization: Bearer <token from the secret>, and returns the id and status from the response. Add a button on the settings page that sends "hello from HelloHop" to the number I enter. Handle a 429 with code sandbox_allowance_exceeded by showing the resets_at time. Do not add a webhook yet.
